RICHLAND, Wash. - A Richland man is dead after smoke and fire destroyed his home.   Kadlac officials say 65-year-old Tom Knolan died of smoke inhalation just after 9:00 p.m. Monday night.

Firefighters were called to 515 Newcomer Street in Richland around 5 p.m. after receiving reports of smoke coming from the home.

Firefighters say when they got there they found Tom Knolan inside.

An investigation of the cause of the fire is underway.

Battalion Chief James Hempstead said, "The Fire Marshall is on scene and he'll be conducting an investigation of the incident.  His report will be available later this week."

Firefighters say the single story home was seriously damaged.  Knolan was reportedly the only one home when the fire broke out.
