NEW YORK, NY - The Washington Huskies stumbled in the second half and lost to 16th-ranked Texas A&M 77-63 tonight in an NIT Season-Tip Off semifinal game at New York's Madison Square Garden. The Huskies led 36-32 at halftime. They trailed only 55-54 with 7:14 left before the Aggies went on a 12-2 run in a key 5-minute stretch to put the game away. The Huskies were outscored 45-27 in the second half. Junior forward Jon Brockman had 21 points and 15 rebounds for Washington, which suffered its first loss in four games this season. Center Joe Wolfinger scored 12 points off the bench, including two 3-pointers, and guard Justin Dentmon had 10 points and 4 assists for the Huskies. Despite Brockman's 15 rebounds, the Huskies were outrebounded 48-39. They were only 2-for-13 from 3-point range. The Huskies will play 21st-ranked Syracuse in the consolation game at Madison Square Garden at 1:30 on Friday afternoon. Syracuse lost to Ohio State 79-65 in the other semifinal game tonight.
