YAKIMA, Wash -- There are over 1,000 homeless people in Yakima, and with temperatures dropping, and winter weather rolling in, area shelters expect to be busy over the next few months.
However, they need volunteers.
According to Dave Hanson, assistant pastor of the Yakima Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church, local shelters need 150 volunteers for the winter. Currently, they have 35.
Hanson says volunteers only need to be willing to work 2-3 nights all winter.
If you are interested in volunteering, Central Washington Comprehensive Mental Health will hold two training sessions at their offices on South 4th Avenue: Tuesday, November 27th at 6:30pm and Saturday, December 8th at 10am.
