Plans for new developments at Clover Island are discussed
Kennewick Port Commissioners are still reviewing the final design for the project. Some of the options on the table include a lighthouse, and landscaping along the shore.
The proposed budget for this makeover is estimated at over 5 million dollars, but the Port hopes to cut down on this cost.
Commercial and residential developers have already shown interest in building here.
Commissioners say their goal is to increase public use of the island and attract out-of-town visitors.
Tim Arntzen, Port Executive Director says, you don't have to be a tenant of the marina or be coming out here to do business with one of the merchants, you can simply come out here on a Sunday afternoon and find that Clover Island is an inviting place
Commissioners are looking forward to the most is a gateway portal, something they hope will give the island a more welcoming environment.
There will also be a pier that overlooks the river and a place for people to fish.
