Royal Rolls Past Connell for Third Title in 4 Years
TACOMA, Wash - Austin Allred ran for two touchdowns and passed for another today as Royal beat Connell 28-16 for the Class 1A state football championship. That gives the Knights a 14-1 record for the year and their fifth crown in seven title-game appearances; more 1A championships than any other school.
Connell (13-1) saw a perfect season disappear in the title game for the second straight year. The Eagles finish the season at 13-1. They fell to Meridian in last year's championship game, as well.
Allred passed for 229 yards, completing 13 of 24. Allred accounted for 315 yards altogether, adding 86 rushing yards on 17 carries. Blair Collins caught five passes for 87 yards and a touchdown, and Zach Lewis hauled in two for 98, including a 57-yarder.
Connell quarterback Brett Clyde completed 17 of 39 passes for 265 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Wes Jenks caught the 17-yard scoring pass.
