Let the sorting begin...the next task after the Food Drive
Our annual KNDU Family Food Drive was a great success but now all of the food has to be sorted and hauled out to local food banks.
The sorting process is a long one but Director of Second Harvest Kathey Kilgore says it's well worth the time. She says they look forward to this time of year because everyday they do this is making a difference for someone.
They start by weighing the bins, then it's sorted by food groups... protein, fruits and vegetables, grains, and miscellaneous. Then it's weighed again and distributed to the food banks so that they can get the food to the people who need it.
Kathey says the entire sorting process will take about a month to complete but it's one of there favorite times of the year at Second Harvest.
The total amount of food donated at the KNDU Family Food Drive was 141,983 pounds and 23,633.77 dollars were raised and if one dollar equals six pounds of food the grand total is 172,610 pounds of food.
