Emotional Day for Families of Selah Men Found DeadPosted: Updated:
YAKIMA, Wash - Friends and family of one of the Selah men found dead near Naches spent much of Wednesday grieving.
The bodies of 36-year-old Matthew Richards and 56-year-old Randy Covey were discovered by Yakima County Search and Rescue crews Wednesday at Cleman Mountain.
Richards and Covey went to Cleman Mountain over the weekend to search for Covey's son and his friend after they didn't return home from bow hunting. Search and rescue crews were able to find the hunters Sunday night.
When Richards and Covey didn't return home, they were reported missing. Crews found their bodies Tuesday. According to the Yakima County Sheriff's Office, the men were thrown from a truck after it rolled down a slope.
"Right up to the end he helped people and that is exactly the way we would like him remembered. He helped people and everyone that knew him felt like they were his best friend and he treated everyone that way. His family, his business associates and everyone felt very special when they were close to him," says Nathan Richards, Matthew's brother.
Contributions benefiting the Richards' family can be made at Yakima Valley Credit Union. Also, the credit union has been raising money this year for the mobile command division of the Yakima County Search and Rescue Council.
Richards' wife, Carrie, would like to recognize the search and rescue team and their efforts. She says they searched for Richards like he was one of their own.
