E.W.U. Head Coach Paul Wulff to Replace Doba at W.S.U.
PULLMAN, Wash - Washington State University Athletic Director Jim Sterk said he wanted a new head football coach by Christmas; it looks like he's made his decision a couple of weeks early.
KHQ, our sister station in Spokane, has learned the Sterk has recommended Eastern Washington Head Football Coach Paul Wulff to be the next Cougar head coach. Wulff played for the Cougars back in the mid-80's. He has a career record of 53-40 at Eastern Washington and has taken the Eagles to the playoffs three out of the last four years. He has spent all 15 of his coaching years at Eastern and has said before that he would love to be the head coach of the Cougars. It looks like he's got his wish.
A news conference is set for 3 o'clock tomorrow to make the official announcement. Again, nothing is official until University President Elson Floyd approves the recommendation.
****We have some new information to add to this story. As of 7:15 this evening, we learned from Eastern Washington's Athletic Director Scott Barnes that Paul Wulff has been in contact with him and will be accepting the head coaching job at W.S.U.'s press conference tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock.
