SUNNYSIDE, Wash - Sunnyside Community Hospital opened a remodeled and expanded emergency room Wednesday afternoon.
In 1997, over a hundred people met in Sunnyside to talk about what the community expected from its hospital in the 21st century.
Ten years later, their vision has become a reality.
Gone are the patient care areas separated by curtains. Replaced instead, a by a state of the art Emergency Department, with multiple private rooms to treat patients, a decontamination shower and a negative pressure room.
The total project cost over $3,000,000 - with much of it coming from the local community.
"The community has really contributed a great deal," said Jon Smiley, the hospital's CEO, "and the service will be second to none."
