YAKIMA, Wash.- Tuesday night Yakima city council voted 7-0 to ban the sale of novelty lighters in the city of Yakima. Deputy Fire Marshal, Ron Melcher has been heading the push to get this new law passed. It took the Yakima Fire Department five months, and it puts Yakima on the map as the first city in the state to ban novelty lighters, and fifteenth in the country.
The new law goes into effect January 11th. Business owners have thirty days to sell their remainding novelty lighters and get them off their shelves.
