Yakima Doctor Convicted of Eight Counts of Health Care Fraud
YAKIMA, Wash - A local doctor has been convicted of eight counts of health care fraud. Attorneys for the U.S. Department of Justice in the eastern Washington district say they have seen cases like this take advantage of health care benefit programs that help low income patients and those with disabilities.
Dr. Rosa Martinez in Yakima is convicted of over billing patients in these health care programs for services she never performed. The maximum penalty for each fraud case is ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The jury in Martinez's trial also returned two other not guilty verdicts on health care fraud and gave no verdicts on three more fraud cases.
