Milton - Freewater, Wash., - Just before 7:30 a.m., on December 14, 2007, officers of the Milton-Freewater Police Department were investigating a suspicious situation in the vicinity of Main Street. To ensure the safety of our students and staff, the district secured all campuses. Students were quickly ushered into the closest building, buses were directed to pick up students walking to their schools. 12/14/07 - 8:48 a.m.

Just before 7:30 this morning, (Dec. 14th) a female was traveling south bound on HW 11 in a stolen pickup truck. Our local officers sighted the stolen vehicle and pursued. Near the car wash on HW 11, the female driver panicked and rammed into the police car. Our officer fired shots at the pickup. The female driver stopped and fled on foot. At this time the female is still at large.

The police officer was injured and transported to the hospital. The current report about the officer is that it looks good for him.

Our schools are currently in "secure mode" keeping everyone inside. Everyone in our schools should remain inside until my next notification.

We will keep you informed.
