UMATILLA, Ore.-- Two organizations are teaming up to help the community in Umatilla.
Washington Group International and the Umatilla Chemical Depot are helping the city move forward, by giving a donation for a new Library and City Hall.
In comparison to the old library this grant will increase the size by nearly 3,000 square feet. To receive the $50,000 grant were representatives from the Friends of the Umatilla Library as well as the major of Umatilla, Dave Trott.
Washington Group says this donation is their way of thanking the people of Umatilla for all their support.
Hal McCune, Protocol Manager for Washington Group International, said, "They've been very supportive of the Umatilla Chemical Depot and our work to destroy the chemical weapons there, so this is one way for us to kind of pay them back a little bit and show our appreciation."
Locals are calling the project Operation New Library. This donation brings the total money raised to almost $400,00. Their goal is to reach half a million. If it is reached, construction could begin as early as next summer.
