Teenagers Outsmart Burglar in Kennewick

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.--These teenagers definitely deserve a special treat from mom and dad.

Here's what happened. Around 3:00 a.m. Saturday morning, 25-year-old Fabian Valencia of Pasco somehow broke into an apartment on South Olympia street. Valencia went into one bedroom where a 14-year-old boy was sleeping. He woke the boy up, saying his older (16-year-old) sister was in danger. The suspect then proceeded to wake her up saying both of their lives were in danger.

From here, the two teenagers were able to walk and talk Valencia outside and locked the door. That's when they called police.

"The officers were able to get there very quickly and they setup a perimeter in the apartment complex there and moved in on foot," says Sergeant Brian Swartswalter, Kennewick police. The boy was able to give a fairly good description of the guy."

Valencia tried to run but officers took him into custody. Police say he had been drinking.

Valencia was booked into the Benton County Jail on Residential Burglary in the First Degree. Sergeant Swartswalter said the teens' parents were not home at the time.
