Richland Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Urgent Need of Volunteers

Posted: Updated:
Richland -- There are nearly 40 thousand veterans in our region.   Many need medical help.   But a shortage of workers at the Richland veterans affairs medical center is making life more difficult for them.

Linda Garcia, the manager of the clinic said Tuesday that there is a dire need for drivers to transport veterans to their medical appointments.

"They don't have family members in the area that can take them, no extended family, so it's a challenge."

And volunteer coordinator Ruth Hammer said the needs of veterans go even further.

"They need to be provided for, their personal needs and also they need someone who really cares about them."

If you are interested in looking into volunteering, stop by the clinic at 948 Stevens Drive in Richland, or call their number at 946-1020.

Volunteers are needed at the center to greet veterans and make them feel comfortable as they arrive for their appointments.

Meanwhile, a special "thank you" event for veterans only is scheduled at the Center for December 20th.
