Moxee Family Recovering After Fire on Christmas

Moxee, Wash. -- After their home was severely damaged by a fire on Christmas, a Moxee family says they just have to move on.

The Murataya family was visiting relatives for a holiday get-together and returned home to find a bunch of fire trucks in their driveway.

Rodrigo Murataya, the father, says his first thought was that someone had broken into their home.

With the house boarded up, the family has not had a chance to see what they can salvage.

"I don't know if there is anything substantial inside the house that we're going to be able to recover or save," says Murataya. "At this point it's a matter of going in and, at least, trying to retrieve some clothes."

Investigators say the fire started because a stove pipe was installed too close to the wall. They estimate the damage at $120,000.

The Murataya family says they've received a lot of help from the Red Cross and that they intend to rebuild the house because they like the area.
