Ben Franklin Transit Receives Federal Funding in '08 Budget
RICHLAND, Wash.--$686,000 dollars will help purchase new buses. Ben Franklin Transit General manager, Tim Fredrickson, said several of the buses have been in service since 1986. State Senator Patty Murray, Senator Maria Cantwell and Representative Doc Hastings, all played a role in securing this money for next year's budget.
"We are happy for it," says Fredrickson. There are a lot of transit systems in the state that have not received any funding. It's something we have been working hard."
Funding has also been secured for Ben Franklin Transit's base expansion and modernization project. Included will be a large storage area as well as a vehicle cleaning and washing facility.
