Benton County Sheriff's Office Gets Tasers for Deputies
TRI-CITIES, Wash.--The main reason Benton County Sheriff Deputies chose to purchase tasers is because the device is so effective.
Benton County Deputies finished taser training on Thursday, December 20th. Afterwards, 43 were handed out. Similar to Richland police, every patrol deputy will carry a taser with a camera.
Benton County Sheriff Sergeant Bill Morey, said his team did their homework. Deputies consulted with West Richland police as well as another agency on the west side.
"We also looked at other information from other agencies," mentions Sgt. Morey. Seattle police department being one of them. We looked at the year long study they did on the use and effectiveness of tasers and we used that as part of our decision making process to acquire them."
Sergeant Morey adds that eight tasers will also be distributed to Benton County Corrections Officers inside the jail. That should occur sometime in 2008.
