YAKIMA, Wash. -- Some people will try to quit smoking as their New Year's resolution, but Perry Tech's entire campus will be tobacco-free after the first of the year.
The school recently brought in representatives from the American Lung Association to give students information on how to quit smoking. The new rule prohibits the use of any tobacco product on campus grounds.
Administrators say it was a deterrent to have the smoking area in the middle of campus.
"We had some students coming through, counting cigarette butts with our tour guide instead of listening to what he was saying, "says Perry Tech President, Christine Cote. "We decided then that it was time to make this move."
