Kennewick Police Promotes Three Officers

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.--Three Kennewick police officers received promotions Wednesday.

In a packed room at City Hall, friends, family, and colleagues watched as Kennewick police Chief Ken Hohenberg issued new badges to Captain Scott Child, Patrol Sergeant Chris Walters and Patrol Corporal Matt Newton.

Combined, all three have served 26 years in a Kennewick police uniform.

"I'm really excited to continue working with the same guys I've been working with for several years, just in a different aspect," says Corporal Newton.

"It's great, ya know, the support I've received from my family throughout my career as well as from the department," mentions Sergeant Walters. They're my family as well."

Captain Scott Child may be a familiar face to viewers. He's handing over his media relations duties to Sergeant Brian Swartswalter, Kennewick's new Public Information Officer (PIO).
