Ellensburg, WA - Central Washington University will begin its search for a new president immediately, but finding a replacement for Dr. Jerilyn McIntyre will likely take a year.
Dr. McIntyre will stay on the job until a new president is found.
Before that can happen, the university's board of trustees needs to assemble a search committee.
They will discuss this at a meeting on Monday morning.
The search committee will be made up of faculty and staff, as well as community figures.
Members of the committee will also seek out opinions from the local community and alum on the characteristics of a new president, as well as possible candidates.
Dr. McIntyre says she will not be involved in the process in any way.
She announced her retirement this morning to pursue an old passion with her husband, fiction writing.
