The incident happened Sunday evening, just after 5 p.m. Five teenagers from Toppenish were hunting on private property along SR-97.
One of them shot a goose and the victim went to retrieve the bird. The rest of the hunting party did not see him leave and one of them, an 18 year old male, fired when he saw movement about 30 feet away.
One of the bird-shot bullets hit the 15 year old in the face. He was taken to Memorial Hospital.
Sheriff's deputies were told that his injuries were not life threatening.
Deputies say they are still investigating the incident, but they do not expect criminal charges to be filed.
