RICHLAND, Wash.--Richland police will be adding patrols on State Route 240 from Stevens Drive to Aaron Drive. This is mainly to catch speeders and drivers who run red lights at busy intersections.
Washington State Patrol would normally cover the highway, but their resources are limited. Captain Mike Cobb says it's a serious concern.
"There's a lot greater chance of an accident and it's happening during the high volume times from about 5:00-7:00 in the morning and from about 4:00 p.m. till about 6:30 p.m. in the evening."
The emphasis will mainly occur at peak driving times. This means more officers will be seen on SR 240 in the early morning as well as in the evening during rush hour.
