Identity Theft Victim Speaks Out

WEST RICHLAND, Wash. -- One victim in a string of identity theft speaks out. Thursday night, KNDU talked to one of the more than 19 victims who says she can't believe she was scammed by someone she trusted.

Just like the other cases in this theft ring, Rob Steelman was applying for a business loan with Bank of the West. He had to give all his and his wife Jayne's personal information to get the loan.

And police say, loan officer Cassidy Janosky used that information to take Jayne's money.

She says, "I was in disbelief to find that it was someone I trusted that, I gave all my information to and she used my information to steal my identity."
Jayne says the thieves were using the credit cards to make online purchases at Sears.
She says all told they charged almost $20,000 using her identity.

Fortunately, she says, Bank of the West has promised to get her her money back.
