Costco to open call center in YakimaPosted: Updated:
Yakima, WA - Costco is expanding its presence in the Yakima area.
The corporation announced plans to open a new call center, which could mean more than 250 new jobs.
The call center will be located in this building on North 6th Street, just off Highway 12.
It's where House Values used to be before the real estate market took a dive nationwide, and the company had to make massive cuts, which included one hundred jobs in Yakima.
"Anything," says YVCC student Steven Corbridge, "I'll take anything right now."
Corbridge needs a good paying job with flexible hours to help pay for school and household expenses.
"I heard about it this morning and I was kind of excited about it. I was thinking that's a lot of jobs."
The Costco Warehouse was also bombarded inquiries.
"I say we've been getting about five calls an hour," says Mike O'Hara, General Manager of the new Costco Warehouse in Union Gap.
It employs 238. O'hara says the call center when its up and running will top 250 employees.
He says Costco's wages and benefits make it a very attractive place to work.
Yakima's real estate prices made it an ideal location for the corporation to put its new call center.
"I think the real estate was at an attractive price," says O'Hara, "The facility that was offered to us was such a good fit for what we do. A perfect match for our type of business in the call center."
O'Hara says the new call center will probably open up in the springtime.
It will handle everything from online orders to complaints and recalls.
Chinook Business Park sold the property to Costco for $2.6 million.
