YAKIMA, Wash. -- The Yakima Police Department is still totaling their car theft numbers for 2007, but they are estimating a 15% decrease.
In 2006, reports were filed for 1,002 stolen cars. In 2007, officials say their initial total is 846.
The department is in line to receive money from the Washington Auto Theft Prevention Authority. The agency is using money collected from citations to aid the fight against car theft through out the state.
Offcials say they will use the money to buy bait cars.
