Monthly Ambulance Fee Affects Kennewick Residents

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Kennewick residents will soon be responsible to pay a $3.12 fee per month to cover ambulance transport services.

Tuesday night the Kennewick City Council approved the ambulance fee which will be added to the water and sewer bill. This fee lowers the ambulance transport cost from $950 to $578.

The city says they've been working on this for quite some time and they want to keep this monthly payment as low as possible for everyone.

"It's taken us a little bit of time but we really feel like this is the best approach to move forward to try to keep down the cost of an ambulance transport," said Marie Mosley, Executive Director of Support Services for the City of Kennewick.

This fee will be adopted no earlier than March 1st. The city will be sending letters to all Kennewick residents and businesses who will be affected.

This is not exactly new for Kennewick residents. They had been paying the fee for almost 30 years until 2004, when the Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional. In 2005 a new legislation allowed the fee to be implemented once again.
