YAKIMA, Wash. -- Neighbors from Zillah spoke out at a hearing today, against the proposed site for their mayor's compost business.
Mayor Gary Clark wants to move "Soil Conditioners" to a lot on Cheyne Road, but neighbors say the business will not fit on the property. They are also worried about its potential for noise, dust, and pollution.
"Nobody is going to be monitoring it", says Jan Whitefoot. "There's a big lack of that in this area. That's what you're in for if he's allowed to go in."
Whitefoot is a resident of Harrah and claims that compost businesses there are polluting the groundwater.
Clark says his business will comply with all environmental standards.
