KENNEWICK, Wash. - For many people keeping warm means kranking up the heater. But as the thermostat goes up, so does your bill. Here are a few tips one heating expert claims will save you money.
Keep clutter away from air ducts. Do the same thing outside with your heat pump, keep it clear of ice and debris. Make sure you have a clean filter for your furnace. And when you're not using your fireplace close your flu.
"The biggest thing is air flow. You gotta keep the air travelling through the furnaces and the heat pumps, and if you block any of those with a dirty filter, or blocking the vents or the returns you will not get the air flow needed to heat the home properly," said Ken Day, Dayco Heating.
Day said just keeping your filter clean will save your 25% to 40% on your bill.
