KENNEWICK, Wash.- Plunging temperatures are leading to increasing car thefts.
Police say people continue to leave their cars running to warm them up, but find them missing when they come out to leave.
Just this weekend, two-cars went missing in Kennewick after people left them running for only a couple minutes.
"It only takes a second to hop in the driver's seat and put her in reverse and take off with it, or, even if the car is locked it only takes a couple seconds to break the window and get in," said Officer Kenny Melone with the Kennewick Police Department.
Some insurance companies will not reimburse you if your car is stolen while left running.
If police catch you, it can cost you as much as $160 in fines.
