Seahawks coach to stay put

Associated Press - January 22, 2008 5:43 PM ET

KIRKLAND, Wash. (AP) - Mike Holmgren is going to return as coach of the Seattle Seahawks for the 2008 season. He adds that it will be his last season as coach. There had been speculation that he might step down after the Seahawks lost to Green Bay in the playoffs.

Holmgren's record with Green Bay and Seattle, where he arrived in 1999, is 170-110, one win behind former Redskins coach Joe Gibbs for 10th in NFL history. Holmgren is 86-68 in nine seasons with Seattle. He passed Chuck Knox this season for most victories by a Seahawks coach.

Seattle will return the core of its team next season, and 5 of the Seahawks' six division titles have come under Holmgren.
