RICHLAND, Wash.-- It happened early Monday morning. A Richland police officer checked the license plates of an old pick-up truck. It was quickly learned at that time the vehicle was reported stolen.
One of the passengers was 34-year-old Heidi Hughes of Pasco. Hughes said her ex-boyfriend gave her permission to use his truck. Well, it turns out that he bought the truck from another guy who stole the truck from the registered owner.
If you are going to purchase or sell a vehicle, police offer you two tips that makes the transaction legal.
"Anytime you purchase or trade or sell a vehicle, you need to look for two things," says Sgt. Kevin Berger, Richland police. One is a title. The second is a bill of sale."
Police also found Methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in the truck. Hughes was arrested for drug possession and could be charged with Possession of Stolen Property.
