Pasco Police Testing New "Cellular" Internet Connections in Patrol Cars

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, Wash.- The Pasco Police Department's patrol cars are now being equipped with new Verizon Wireless USB Internet connections.

The new technology gives them full Internet access anywhere they get a cell signal.

Before, officers' Internet access for reports and background checks was limited to only certain areas of town, forcing them to tie up dispatch and radio time making checks.

"We can run plates, run names, check for warrants.  The biggest thing is it frees up our dispatchers.  I can run anything that dispatch can run," said Officer Brett Hansen.

The Department is running the project as a test right now but says its been successful so far and will probably be permanently implemented.
