Ice Jams May Cause Flooding along Yakima River in Benton County
RICHLAND, Wash. - Benton County Emergency Services are warning land owners along the Yakima River in Benton County of potential flooding due to ice jams.
Officials are asking residents living along the Yakima River in Benton City, West Richland and Richland to monitor water levels in their areas. One specific area that is seeing localized flooding right now is one-half mile downstream of the Van Giesen Road Bridge in West Richland.
Emergency Services Officials recommend livestock owners should have a plan in place to move their herds to higher grounds if needed.
County officials will continue to monitor ice in the river and will advise area residents if conditions change.
