RICHLAND, Wash.-- A young girl in Richland was recognized as the 2008 Youth of the Year for The Boys and Girls Club.
Libby Sturges is a junior at Richland High and has been a member of the club for a little over three years. Libby teaches classes at the club to kids from Kindergarten to 7th grade, twice a week.
The finalists had to write an essay, give a speech and interview with six business leaders. She has some advice for her peers.
"Never give up and always believe in yourself because if you say that you can do it then you can, but if you think that you can't, you can't, and don't listen to anybody who says you can't," said Elizabeth 'Libby' Sturges.
As Youth of the Year, Libby will go to Olympia to meet with Governor Gregoire. She also got a $500 college scholarship, and will compete for Youth of the Year in the state.
