YAKIMA, Wash. -- According to investigators, a fire on Wide Hollow Road this morning was caused by "misplaced smoking materials."
When crews got to the home at about 3:30 a.m., a garage was fully engulfed and a nearby motor home was starting to catch fire. Three people escaped from the motor home and a woman inside the house had to be treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
Neighbors called 9-1-1 after they heard crackling noises and saw "a big orange glow" outside their bedroom window.
Investigators estimate the damage at $40,000.
Fire crews initially had a hard time getting water on the fire because the nearest hydrant was over a thousand feet away.
