The driver of a 2003 Chevy pickup falls asleep at the wheel and drives his car off the road falling nearly 30 feet onto Highway 730.
40-year-old Vaughn Moser of Hermiston was driving southbound on Interstate 82 on Friday. Oregon police say he was approaching a right curve on the highway and fell asleep while traveling at nearly 70mph on cruise control.
Police say these accidents are not uncommon on the road and have some suggestions for drivers.
"Make sure you get enough rest before you drive, if you find yourself falling asleep get a rested driver behind the wheel, best thing to do is find a safe place to pull over and come to a stop," said Lieutenant Gregg Hastings, with the Oregon State Police.
Police say inside the vehicle were three other passengers who all had minor injuries. They were all transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center for treatment. Moser was airlifted to Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland and is listed in stable condition.
