YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima City Council members were back in town on Monday after spending last week in Olympia.
The council took part in a special legislative conference and discussed topics like the proposed gang bill, as well as the bill regarding random drug testing for law enforcement officials.
Mayor Dave Edler says other communities are following in Yakima's footsteps because of the success its' officials have had in presenting their ideas at a state level. Edler had a chance to speak in front of the Legislature regarding the gang bill.
"I believe we were, in a lot of ways, preaching to the choir", says Edler. "I think they get it. I think they know something needs to be done".
Edler says he was not just speaking on behalf of Yakima, but for all cities in the valley that are effected by gangs.
