Scammers send out phishing email involving local bank

Posted: Updated:

Yakima, WA -     A viewer called in to warn us about a phishing email involving a local bank.

The woman received an email which said her internet banking account had been suspended temporarily.

She was directed to another site to fill out the necessary information for an "account update."      the email goes on to say all information is "treated in confidence" and "stored in a secure database."

And at the bottom of the page...   It says "copyright Yakima Valley Credit Union."

The woman knew this was a scam because she doesn't have an account there.

Yakima Valley Credit Union says financial institutions don't send emails asking customers for personal information.
