YAKIMA, Wash - More flights and bigger planes could be heading to the Yakima airport. This news comes after almost 2,000 more passengers in 2007 boarded flights at the airport than 2006. Now airport staff says they are talking to other airlines about flying to Yakima.
Other positive numbers include 200 less people traveling with Horizon in 2007 than they did the year before. However, Delta didn't have two flights out of Yakima in 2006.
"Due to the higher fuel costs obviously our flights are fuller. Also with winter weather conditions people are flying rather than driving," says Shawna Treat, who has worked with Horizon in the Yakima airport for 20 years.
For the time being only one flight from Delta has been departing from Yakima. That will change back to two flights on February 14th.
Horizon later this year will be adding bigger planes that can seat double the amount of passengers than the planes right now.
Airport staff would not comment on which new airlines may come to Yakima.
