Truck Drivers Taking the Risk Over Snoqualmie Pass
EASTON, Wash - While White Pass was closed for most of the day, Snoqualmie Pass was open on and off.
The shoulder on Interstate 90 westbound, one mile east of Easton, this Thursday was lined with truckers chaining up. Chains were required on all trucks. The drivers battled heavy snow and slushy roads.
The pass was open, but staff at the Department of Transportation warn drivers not to take Snoqualmie Pass if they don't have to. Some didn't have a choice.
"Well it's either this or White Pass. White Pass is closed today and it's an extra 200 miles round trip," said Joe Hanson, a truck driver heading west.
The avalanche danger continues and the DOT anticipates over two feet of snow in the next 24 hours.
