Local hotels reap the benefits from three big events

Posted: Updated:

Yakima, WA -  The Yakima Valley has three big events going on that will be bringing some big bucks to the local economy.

If you haven't made a hotel reservation at this point, you better be willing to stay somewhere in the lower valley.

The Red Lion Hotel on Yakima Avenue says it's sold out through the weekend, as well as eight other hotels in the Yakima and Union Gap area.

All that's left are lower end hotels right now.

Red Wine and Chocolate, Sportsmen's Days and a conference for the Washington Music Educators Association are all going on at the same time.

"Every other year, the WMEA comes to town and the hotels fill up, especially with red wine and chocolate," says Scott Steinloski, one of the managers of the Red Lion Hotel.

Between all three events, almost 15-thousand people will be visiting the Yakima Valley this weekend.

The Yakima Visitor's and Convention Bureau says the conference alone means $700,000 to the local economy.
