WEST RICHLAND, Wash.-- A dog and his owner are bringing some joy to the community. Sebastian and his dog Gunner are making sure kids are keeping up with their reading.
They've set up the "PAWS to Read" program at two libraries. They hope kids come read aloud to Gunner, to practice their reading skills and improve their self-confidence.
Gunner is a Certified Therapy Dog, with the Delta Society Pet Partner's Team. In addition to "PAWS to Read", they also make regular visits to patients at Kadlec Medical Center.
"Pets brought into hospital settings and things have a dramatic effect on the improvement of people's health and I said well I'm a dog and cat person, and I'm big hairy and ugly so why not?," said Sebastian Tindall.
Sebastian and Gunner will be at the Richland Library every Thursday from 3:45p.m. until 5:00p.m. and at the West Richland Library every Wednesday at 6:30p.m.
Starting in April they'll also be at Barnes and Noble in Kennewick every Sunday afternoon at 3:30p.m.
