Kennewick -- A Tri-Cities man threw his hat in the ring Friday, beginning a campaign for the 8th District Legislative seat currently held by Republican Shirley Hankins.

Brad Klippert, a conservative Republican made his announcement at the Justice Center in Kennewick.   He called for increased sentences for criminals, allocation of money for treatment inside prisons rather than outside, smaller government, and safer neighborhoods, among other things.

Klippert's background is in law enforcement.  He has fifteen years experience as a deputy sheriff, twenty years as a helicopter pilot with the Army National Guard, is an ordained minister, and has a master's degree in teaching.

He does part time teaching at Columbia Basin College in addition to his duties as a deputy.

There has been no word from Shirley Hankins whether she will run again for the Legislative seat in the 8th District.
