Archbishop of Morelia, Mexico Gives Mass in Yakima
YAMIKA, Wash. -- The Archbishop of Yakima's sister city in Mexico was in Yakima. Hundreds of people filled St. Paul's Cathedral for a mass led by the archbishop.
Parishioners from catholic churches all over Yakima came to see Reverend Alberto Suarez Inda at the afternoon's mass. They were also invited to stay afterwards for a reception to celebrate the archbishop's visit.
Parishioner Maria Cardenas says, "I come to mass every Sunday, but especially today, it was a very special day to be here."
The Archbishop is here on a six-day visit to Central Washington. Suarez Inda is the Archbishop of Yakima's sister city, Morelia, where many immigrants from Central Washington come from.
They are hoping this visit will strengthen relations between the Morelia Diocese and the Yakima Diocese.
The Archbishop will be giving three more public masses on Monday at Holy Apostles Parish in East Wenatchee, then Tuesday at Our Lady of Fatima in Moses Lake and on Wednesday at St. Joseph's parish in Sunnyside.
