YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - A Yakima County sheriff's deputy who won an arbitration ruling after being fired is suing to get her job back.
Jan Bartleson was dismissed in 2003, when she was found unfit for psychological reasons.
Two months ago a labor arbitrator, James Lundberg, ruled that the county failed to follow proper procedures. He gave the county two choices - reinstate her or pay her both back pay and future pay for loss of a career.
Yesterday the Yakima County Law Enforcement Officers Guild filed a lawsuit in Superior Court asking that the county be compelled to comply with the ruling. The lawsuit also asks that the damages awarded to Bartleson be doubled and that the union be awarded legal fees.
County lawyers dispute the legality of the ruling.
