Routine Traffic Stop Ends in Cocaine Arrest

KENNEWICK, Wash.-- A routine traffic stop turns into a narcotics bust Tuesday night in Kennewick. State patrol stopped a vehicle driving westbound on Kennewick Avenue.

Inside the Ford Mustang troopers found nearly 14 grams of cocaine, $400 in cash, and a digital scale. Police arrested three men.

21-year-old Hugo Galvez, 25-year-old Ernesto Galvez and 22-year-old Trejo Noradino. Troopers say these stops are becoming more frequent.

"Part of it, is just the officers becoming more and more vigilant as far as looking past a traffic stop and looking into the vehicles a little bit more, and part of it I think is due to the increase in the population in the area and increase of probably drugs in general in the area," said Trooper Brian Luedtke, with the Washington State Patrol.

Troopers say none of the men resisted arrest. The cocaine was found inside one of the man's shoes.

Kennewick police assisted at the scene. All three men are from the Tri-cities area. They were taken to Benton County jail for a 72-hour hold, on felony and misdemeanor charges. Ernesto Galvez had two previous warrants in Pasco and Kennewick.
