RICHLAND, Wash. -- Months after one of their workers was killed in a turbine accident, Simiens Power Generation has been fined for safety violations.
After a six month investigation, Oregon's Occupational Safety and Health Division concluded that Simiens failed to properly train and supervise its employees, resulting in more than $10,000 in fines.
On August 25th, three workers were doing maintenance on a turbine tower. One of the workers released a service brake while the turbine blades were flat against the wind, causing the tower to collapse.
Chadd Mitchell, 35, of Goldendale was killed in the accident.
The investigation did not find any structural problems with the tower.
