YAKIMA, Wash. -- Before the city voted to remove the controversial 'gun' banners from Yakima Avenue they voted to add new 'wine country' banners along North 1st Street.
Businesses along North 1st Street have been working together for years to clean up the street's image.
Many of the businesses are pleased with the improvements to Yakima Avenue, but they are also glad to see that 1st Street is beginning to see some of that same attention.
Ryan Moore manages Gasperetti's restauraunt on 1st Street and he says, "There is definitely some work to be done up here on 1st Street, so just one step at a time. I think this is a great first step to get those banners up. It will improve the look of North 1st Street a great deal, and just move forward from there."
The new banners will look just like the Washington Wine Country banners that are up now along Yakima Avenue near the convention center.
The banners will be hung from Yakima Avenue all the way to Highway 12.
The city has not announced for sure when the banners will be hung, but we may leanr more Tuesday when they make the final decision on the Yakima Avenue banners.
