SEATTLE (AP) - The Sonics have waived forward Ira Newble and announced that center Robert Swift will miss the rest of the season after knee surgery.

Newble was acquired in the Feb. 21 trade with Cleveland and played just 17 minutes in two games.

The Sonics say Swift met with Dr. Steve Lombardo in Los Angeles Thursday and decided to have surgery Tuesday on a torn lateral meniscus in his right knee. Swift was injured in the Feb. 21 game at Portland.

He is not expected to return to action this season.
